Understanding Running Pace and Split Calculations
Your running pace is the time it takes to cover a specific distance, usually expressed in minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer. The relationship is defined by:
- **Pace:** $\text{Pace} = \text{Time} / \text{Distance}$
- **Time:** $\text{Time} = \text{Pace} \times \text{Distance}$
- **Distance:** $\text{Distance} = \text{Time} / \text{Pace}$
Metric vs. Imperial Splits
Converting running speed metrics requires converting between miles and kilometers:
- 1 mile is exactly $1.609344$ kilometers.
- 1 kilometer is approximately $0.621371$ miles.
- To convert minutes/mile to minutes/kilometer, divide your mile pace by $1.609344$.
- To convert minutes/kilometer to minutes/mile, multiply your kilometer pace by $1.609344$.

Disclaimer. Pace calculations are mathematical splits. Actual training plans should accommodate terrain, elevation profile, cardiovascular capacity, and weather.
