How to read resistor color codes

Through-hole resistors use color-coded bands to indicate their resistance value and tolerance. This calculator supports the standard 4-band and 5-band coding systems.

  • 4-Band Resistors: The first two bands represent the significant digits. The third band is the multiplier, and the fourth band is the tolerance.
  • 5-Band Resistors: Found on higher precision resistors, the first three bands represent significant digits. The fourth band is the multiplier, and the fifth band is the tolerance.
