What is a Subnet?
A subnetwork or subnet is a logical subdivision of an IP network. The practice of dividing a network into two or more networks is called subnetting. This allows for more efficient routing of data and helps secure networks by keeping local traffic contained.
The Subnet Mask dictates how many bits of the IP address are used for the network identifier, and how many are used for the host identifier.
