How to calculate electricity cost
This calculator estimates the energy cost of running an appliance based on its power rating, how often you use it, and your local electricity rate.
The Formula
Electricity providers bill you by the Kilowatt-hour (kWh). To find your cost:
- Find kW: Divide the appliance's wattage by 1,000 (e.g., a 1500W space heater is 1.5 kW).
- Find kWh: Multiply the kW by the number of hours used (e.g., 1.5 kW × 2 hours = 3 kWh).
- Find Cost: Multiply the kWh by your local energy price (e.g., 3 kWh × $0.15 = $0.45).
