Simple Fraction Calculator

Add, subtract, multiply, or divide two simple fractions (numerator and denominator each). The tool walks through LCD, equivalent fractions, the arithmetic on numerators, and GCD simplification—then shows a simplified ratio, a mixed answer where it helps, and a decimal to two places. Works in exact rationals end to end; use Share Calculation to save the scenario in the URL.

Step-by-step

How to enter fractions

Enter an integer numerator and a non-zero integer denominator for each fraction. Negative values are allowed on numerators (or denominators, if you follow your class sign rules); denominators must not be zero.

How the steps are built

Addition and subtraction use a shared least common denominator (same as the least common multiple of the denominators). Multiplication multiplies tops and bottoms. Division rewrites the problem with a reciprocal, then uses the multiplication path. Every path ends by dividing top and bottom by their GCD so the displayed ratio is lowest terms.

FAQ

What operations does this Simple Fraction Calculator support?

You can add, subtract, multiply, or divide two fractions by entering a numerator and denominator for each. The tool shows LCD and equivalents for addition and subtraction, reciprocal plus multiplication for division, then simplifies using GCD.

Can numerators be negative or larger than denominators?

Yes. You may enter any integers for numerators and any non-zero integers for denominators. Improper fractions (a top larger than the bottom) are allowed: they follow the same rules when combining or simplifying.

Can I share a specific problem with a classmate?

Yes. After you enter values and press Calculate, use Share Calculation to copy the URL. Opening that link restores the same operands, operation, and outputs.
