How to Plan for Retirement
This calculator follows the same planning model used by leading retirement tools: project your savings from current income and contribution rate, estimate the nest egg required to fund retirement spending through your life expectancy, and show how much more you may need to save.
Key Inputs
- Pre-tax income — your current annual earnings; savings can be entered as a percentage of income or a fixed annual amount.
- Income needed after retirement — target replacement rate (e.g. 75% of current income) or a dollar amount in today's money.
- Other income — monthly Social Security, pension, or rental income at retirement age, which reduces what your portfolio must provide.
